By Wednesday, you need to respond EITHER to this post OR the other Alexie post.
Here's your first option:
The sequel to The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is The Magic and Tragic Year of my Broken Thumb. Hmmmm....
What are your hopes for this new book? What do you think it will be about? What are your predictions for it?
I hope that that it has more about him and Penelope. She is very shady, like she says they are going out to her friends but then they do not act like it. I also want to know if Rowdy actually goes to Reardon. He talked about with Junior at the end but he did not rule out leaving. I think this will have to do more with what happens at school and basketball. I think that because he loves basketball and he has poem about it. Also Junior was good and Roger was kind enough to say he will be awesome. I also want to see Roger more and see how there relationship still is. I think it will be about him playing Baseketball, Rowdy going to Reardon, Penelope and him dating, and him leaving for college.
ReplyDeleteFor this new book, I hope that there is more mentioned about Junior's educational life at Reardan because he had met many different people in the first book. I think that it should elaborate more on the friendships he had between people, and be less general because to me having more details is more interesting to read. I also hope that Rowdy will join Junior at Reardan because I think that if he has his best friend (or ex best friend in a way) with him that Junior will be even more confident than he was towards the end of the book.
ReplyDeleteI think that this book will be about Junior becoming more successful in life, and actually doing something about it. I think that the book will end up with him becoming the next Roger in basketball, and that he will become just as popular as Penelope. I also think that this book will be about his friendship with all of the new people he met at Reardan, as well as his old friendship (which would turn into an even better one) with Rowdy.
For this new book I'm hoping that there will be more on the lesser characters like Rowdy or even Arnold's parents. True Diary was all about Jr.'s accounts of what happened to him when he went to Reardan and the challenges that he faced feeling like he was both white and Indian. The first book gave us his side of the story, and although the book wasn't boring, I would want to see what it was like for his parents to be going through this. If the book isn't about that it's not a big loss, so I would also think that the next book might be about how Arnold does after he graduates, because graduating high school is a pretty big thing. Leaving high school might mean staying or leaving the reservation, going farther than Reardan and having to deal with being away from everything you knew but being open to the future.
ReplyDeleteIn the new book that is coming out I’m hoping that there will be more in the perspective of the parents point of view verses Jr. Reason for me wanting this would be because I believe that it would be interesting to see what the parents are doing and thinking while he goes to the Reardon school. Another thing that I would like to see in the second book would be the perspective of Rodger and his family. I would like to know what are their thoughts about an Indian boy going to an all white school.
ReplyDeleteWhat i think the next book will be about would be more hard times for Jr. because now that he thinks that he is part of the Reardon School people could turn against him for something he didn't do but someone could have accused him for it. I also think in the next book there will be a death of either his mother or father. Hopefully this book will be as good as the last one.
i hope that this book follows up where the last one stopped. I hope we learn what happened in the future with Arnold and his family. I mainly want to see if he becomes successful in life, graduates college, and leaves the reservation. I also want to see how his views on the American government may change as he grows older and wiser. I think it would be cool if Arnold plays college ball and makes it to the NBA.
ReplyDeleteI think that the book will deal with Arnold breaking his thumb during the basketball season. During the first book, he was able to find acceptance through the basketball team, but I believe that in this new story, he will be sidelined, forcing him to find a new way to belong in the school community.
